Brooklyn was initially settled in the early 17th century as a Dutch town entitled “Breuckelen” named after Breuckelen in the Netherlands but prior to their settlement the land was largely inhabited by a group of Indians called the Lenape. As development ensued, the area became its own independent city coupled by rapid urbanization that converted the town into a commuter one that connected locals to Brooklyn Heights and Wall Street.

A final growth spurt of urbanization came to fruition during the latter part of the 19th century as railroads and industrialization spread all the way to Sunset Park and Bay Ridge. Railroads served as the primary connection to nearby towns and in less than a decade railroads in present day Brooklyn annexed New Lots, Flatbush, Gravesend, New Utrecht, and Flatlands.

Since Brooklyn’s history covers about 350 years, it is plausible that it possess many landmarks for people to visit. Historic districts, individual landmarks, and scenic landmarks are spread throughout the neighborhood and give valid insight into the progression Brooklyn made. Notable landmarks include: Alice and Agate Courts Historic District, 14th Regiment Armory, Interior of Ground Floor Dining Room of Gage and Tollner as well as Eastern Parkway and Ocean Parkway.

Restaurants are practically as abundant as the area’s landmarks, in both location and flavor. Locals enjoy dining at Ashoka Indian Grill, Chef’s Table, Triaf and The River Café.

Public transportation is provided by the MTS Bus which travels throughout the entire area.
