Rutherford Memorial Park contains 30 acres of land dedicated to parks and recreation, which includes a football stadium, two baseball diamonds, tennis courts, basketball courts and playgrounds. The school district serves students pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Two redevelopment projects have been halted in recent years. A proposal for 500 housing units on a 28-acre site at the intersection of Highland Cross and Veterans Boulevard reached an impasse in 2018 due to a zoning jurisdiction conflict between the redeveloper and the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. The site was ultimately deemed unsuitable for housing. The other terminated redevelopment plan was between EnCap Golf Holdings and the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission in 2008.
